Hines’ Jerry Lea Awarded Honorary Membership in the American Institute of Architects

(HOUSTON) – Hines, the international real estate firm, is pleased to announce that Jerrold (“Jerry”) P. Lea, senior vice president in charge of the firm’s Conceptual Construction Group, has been awarded honorary membership in the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Honorary membership is one of the highest honors that the AIA can bestow upon a person outside the actual practice of architecture.

According to the AIA, election to honorary membership may be granted to any person of esteemed character who is otherwise ineligible for membership in the Institute, but who has rendered distinguished service to the profession of architecture or to the arts and sciences allied therewith.

Membership is granted only if the accomplishments of the nominee are truly outstanding and of national significance.

From an article on AIA’s Web site (www.aia.org), it is written that throughout his illustrious career, Jerrold P. Lea has provided distinguished service to the profession of architecture through his leadership and commitment to excellence in sustainable design practices and technologies.

Being intimately involved in the realization and operation of nearly all of Hines’ projects, he fully understands the impact large commercial buildings have on the environment and has commissioned some of the best architects to design his firm’s projects based on his respect for their contributions to creating more livable and sustainable cities.

Among his most notable accomplishments:

President and CEO Jeff Hines said, “We have always known that Jerry is a leader and an innovator, and this endorsement from the AIA is further testament to his significant contributions to quality in the built environment.”

Since joining Hines in 1981, Lea has been responsible for consultants selection and contract negotiation, budgeting, scheduling, management of consultant’s designs, and contractor and subcontractor bidding and negotiations for 150 million square feet of commercial, office buildings, retail complexes, hotels, sports facilities, clean rooms, performing arts theaters and museums.

Lea is the second person at Hines to attain honorary AIA membership, following past recipient Gerald D. Hines, founder of the firm.
