Carillon Earns LEED® Gold Certification

(CHARLOTTE, NC) – Hines, the international real estate firm, announced today that the Carillon building in Charlotte, NC, has received Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Existing Buildings (EB) Rating System.

The 24-story, Class A office tower is located in the downtown submarket of Charlotte.

Designed by Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, Carillon contains approximately 470,726 rentable square feet and was completed in 1989.

The Carillon building has earned the ENERGY STAR® label every year since its acquisition by Hines in 2007.

With a current rating of 88, the building is 38 percent more energy efficient and annually saves $0.66 in energy costs per square foot when compared to the average U.S. office building.

This translates to estimated annual greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to removing 554 passenger vehicles from the road.

Green features implemented at Carillon include: energy efficient lighting with reduced mercury content; the use of environmentally sensitive cleaning products and practices; reduction of indoor potable water use through low-flow fixtures; and a comprehensive recycling program, resulting in nearly 84 percent waste diversion.

Additionally, Hines offers its proprietary GREEN OFFICE for Tenants program, which assists in giving tenants options to reduce their carbon footprint.

Energy savings, equipment efficiencies, water conservation and recycling programs directly benefit the tenants in terms of lower operating costs.

In addition, LEED certification strengthens the unique public-private collaborative efforts of the Envision Charlotte program, whose goal is to spur sustainable behaviors and reduce defined environmental resource use and related cost by up to 20 percent within five years in the Uptown Loop,” said Hines General Manager Michael Delev.

Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft; Crescent Resources; Greer & Walker; IBM; LS3P Associates; and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
