NEW YORK – Hudson Square Properties, a joint venture of Trinity Church Wall Street and Norges Bank Investment Management with Hines the operating partner, announced today it has unveiled a 2,100-square-foot public art display on the mezzanine façade of the office tower located at 375 Hudson St. in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan. Bursting with vibrant color, the thought-provoking mural – designed by Brooklyn-based artists GERALUZ and Werc – will wrap around the building covering 340 linear feet fronting Hudson Street on the east façade, Houston street on the north façade and King Street on the south façade.
The mural is designed to instill a sense of hope and unity as New York heals and recovers from the effects of a global pandemic. In this site-specific mural comprised of 40 individual panels, the artists use dynamic geometric colors, shapes and patterns to represent what they call “the natural and essential elements that forge the foundation for holistic living within our urban jungle: a vigorous, ever-changing landscape like the shimmer of sunlight in the sky.” The flying fauna represent a higher perspective, where the vision of the future of creativity nests. A hand holds a cubed prism, focusing and shining the light and the vision. “The cube is a metaphor for the square in Hudson Square, the square in the third dimension - and a reminder that the vision for the future is in our hands” said Artist Gera Lozano.
“Public art is one way we can contribute to the renewal of our neighborhood here in Hudson Square” said Tommy Craig, senior managing director of Hines, part owner and operating partner of the Hudson Square Properties joint venture. “This very thoughtful intervention by GERALUZ and Werc underscores the
vast possibilities the artistic community in New York offers to transform our city in new and positive ways.”
Recently, a partnership between Urban Design Forum, Hudson Square Properties and Hudson Square BID launched a competition designed to activate the outdoor space on King Street between Hudson and Greenwich Streets. The winning design, by WIP Collaborative, will create a new interactive destination in the neighborhood, a place for passersby to come together around a range of activities encouraging gathering and socializing in a beautifully designed streetscape. These initiatives represent an ongoing commitment to revitalize and beautify our surrounding streetscapes for all New Yorkers by working with New York based designers and artists.
