Tour Carpe Diem Becomes First Tower in France to Achieve LEED® Platinum Certification

(PARIS, FRANCE) – Hines, the international real estate firm, announced today that Tour Carpe Diem in Paris-La Défense has received Platinum certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Core & Shell (CS) Rating System.

The building is owned by AVIVA and Crédit Agricole Immobilier. Hines France served as development manager for the new office building, which was just completed and will soon be occupied.

The 40-story, 507,000-square-foot building, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, was previously pre-certified at the Gold level and is now the first Platinum-certified LEED Core & Shell high-rise building in France.

Green features implemented at Tour Carpe Diem include a triple-glazed curtain wall which incorporates sunshades that respond to the solar orientation of each façade. Innovative grills provide natural ventilation to reduce dependence on air conditioning. The lobby garden is irrigated using captured rainwater, and the toilets use recycled greywater for flushing. Additional sustainable design strategies include solar water heating, a heat recovery system and high-performance lighting.

“Our team, including architects, engineers, contractors and Atelier Ten’s New York office, who managed the certification process, is very proud of this accomplishment. This certification gives our project international exposure and we would like to thank the investors for their confidence,” said Hines France Director Franck Laget.

Hines Global Sustainability Officer Gary Holtzer added, “Hines, together with AVIVA and Crédit Agricole Immobilier, is pleased to be able to lead the industry around the world in terms of sustainable development practices. Achieving this certification is a strategic advantage in the France real estate market where awareness of sustainability, environmental performance and occupant productivity is growing among tenants.”
