About 811 Louisiana Redevelopment

In 2013, Hines was retained as redeveloper for 811 Louisiana, the 26-story, 577,735-square-foot office building in downtown Houston formerly known as Two Shell Plaza.

The extensive redesign by Page architects draws on the classic modern lines respectful of the building’s character while projecting a new Class A building image. Natural stone, wood, textured glass and stainless steel will contribute to the buildings updated yet timeless look.

Exterior enhancements feature three stories of the façade re-clad in Virginia Mist granite, an elegant dark natural stone that contrasts with the existing travertine above. Slot windows complement the existing architecture highlighted by a continuous band of LED light. The glass curtainwall is recessed with brushed stainless steel fins and louver canopy corner entrance on Louisiana Street. Sidewalk pavers are replaced with silver limestone that transitions into an expansive new lobby with a reception area that provides an opportunity for informal meetings. Aquasol quartzite will take the place of the travertine on the walls, with accents of Concordia Schist granite surrounding the centralized security desk. Wood veneer walls distinguish the elevator lobbies, and backlit glass doors brighten the spaces. The gold-leafed ceilings are replaced with clean white gypsum and updated LED lighting. Textured glass feature walls and a light installation above the escalators draw traffic from the tunnels and signify the arrival to 811 Louisiana.

Balfour Beatty was the general contractor.
