The Hangar District is the first proposed neighborhood within the large-scale Northcrest Developments-led transformation of YZD, the 370-acre former Downsview Airport lands. The site is located at the epicenter of the greater Toronto region, bounded by major highways and three key transit nodes.
Aligning on a shared vision of sustainability, inclusivity and urban transformation, Hines and Northcrest will combine their expertise to develop the first phase of the 101-acre Hangar District.
Anchored by an old airport hangar complex to be repurposed for approximately one million square feet of employment, commercial, entertainment and retail spaces, this first phase will see approximately 40 acres developed. Overall, the Hangar District development will create approximately eight acres of parks and open spaces, approximately 2,850 residential units, commercial spaces, community-focused amenities, and an iconic pedestrian bridge, linking it to the neighboring 291-acre Downsview Park. The project is projected to break ground in 2026.
