225 Varick Street, part of the New York Hudson Square portfolio, got a facelift last week when a tenant adorned the façade of the building with a rainbow of balloons in honor of NYC Pride Week. Squarespace, who occupies 100,000 square feet of the building, commissioned the installation by artist Jihan Zencirli, aka “Geronimo Balloons.” NYC’s Pride Week commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement. On Sunday, June 25, the week of events capped off with the Pride March, a procession that trekked down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue and ended in the West Village, near many of our Hudson Square properties. The installation was covered on NY1, a local news channel: Pops of Color Ahead of NYC Pride March This Weekend.
The building’s Property Management team was able to help coordinate the installation in three days’ time, garnering approval from Ownership and the building’s other tenants.
