A team of more than 60 Hines employees representing every property in the Hines New York/Connecticut portfolio convened recently to support the work of City Harvest, one of New York’s primary food banks.
The Hines team packaged over three tons of food for the Kosher Food Rescue, a City Harvest beneficiary that addresses the unique dietary needs of over 100,000 Jewish households facing hunger.
Located in Queens, City Harvest pioneered the concept of “food rescue,” a process of safely recovering excess food items and distributing them to people in need. In an average year, City Harvest collects 46 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including grocers, restaurants, corporations, cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. The food is delivered free of charge to more than 500 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bicycles, feeding more than two million hungry residents each year.
