Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Hines is driven by a commitment to excellence, integrity and innovation. Employees are essential to our success, and we are dedicated to attracting, developing, and promoting a talented, diverse, and multicultural workforce. We strive to provide an inclusive environment where differences are valued, embraced, and celebrated, and where everyone can reach their full potential. Diverse perspectives advance new ideas and foster our entrepreneurial culture, creating successful outcomes for our firm as well as our partners, clients, investors and employees.

By the Numbers

Our approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion at Hines considers the whole talent ecosystem: Access, Hiring, Belonging, and Elevation.

Access

Expansion of awareness and access to commercial real estate careers for underrepresented groups are key diversity priorities at Hines. We create opportunities through campus recruiting initiatives and internship programs like Skyline Scholars, an internally sourced education program designed to give college freshmen and sophomores from underrepresented groups career awareness and access to the commercial real estate industry.

Partnerships with organizations such as Project Destined, ULI/WLI, Project REAP, Forte, REEC, CREW, and The Consortium offer equitable opportunities for mentorship, training, and real-world CRE experience for underrepresented talent.

Our recruiting efforts currently reach almost 40% (6) of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and will continue to increase

Over 425 students from diverse backgrounds participated in Hines-sponsored CRE educational programs

Hiring

A diverse workforce is a stronger, more resilient workforce. We are committed to improving gender and ethnic representation in all our job families - particularly at the officer level - and build teams that reflect the diversity of the communities where we operate.

Belonging

We are committed to an inclusive culture that encourages and supports all Hines employees to thrive. Employees' different backgrounds and perspectives spark innovation and push us to advance ideas that benefit Hines, our stakeholders, and partners. The OneHines initiative serves as a commitment to provide a space for employee awareness, engagement, connection, and learning. Our goal is to provide equity through increased empathy, education and action that drives employee engagement, increases employee understanding, and ultimately creates a greater sense of belonging for all employees.

Employee Resource Groups

Our ERG members can identify opportunities, share best practices and serve as Allies to under-represented groups.

Elevation

Hiring, retaining, and promoting diverse talent is critical to the future of Hines. It is important that we reflect society and that we have the right talent in place to meet the needs of Hines, our stakeholders, employees, and the people globally where we operate.

We are laser focused on the biggest broken rung in the pipeline — diverse talent at the officer level — and are taking steps towards solutions. We recently updated our officer promotion criteria for more transparency and criteria, and we also launched a new mentoring program to help drive progression opportunities for all employees.

Social

Prioritizing people is how we do business at Hines

Our focus on people - and on improving their experiences in our workforce, industry, and communities - helps Hines remain a sustainable, resilient business.
