Reaching New Heights in Mixed-Use Development

Military veteran leverages skills to deliver complex projects

My time at Hines has taught me that development is a team sport. You’re working with teammates that have hundreds of cumulative years of experience and a generous willingness to share, all working together to achieve the best outcomes for a diverse group of stakeholders.

Courtney’s Hines journey commenced in July 2017 when she assumed the role of Project Manager at the Conrad Washington DC, the second phase of CityCenterDC, a 2.5 million-square-foot mixed-use destination in the heart of the District. During her tenure, Courtney worked side by side with project officers and the Hines Construction Management team to deliver the 413,000-square-foot luxury hotel and 30,680 square feet of street-oriented retail within the CityCenterDC complex.

Originally from Upstate New York, Courtney graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and touts an MBA from Dartmouth College. She spent six years as an officer in the Army completing two combat deployments with the 10th Mountain Division – one to Iraq, the other to Afghanistan. Courtney also served in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) on a team responsible for coordinating the logistics for the thousands of world class events held annually in Arlington National cemetery and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier such as services, presidential ceremonies and state funerals.

Most recently, Courtney was tapped for a position at Hines’ West Region headquarters in San Francisco. She is currently working on Parcel F, an iconic one million-square-foot mixed-use tower that will include 325,000 square feet of office space, 165 luxury condominium units, and a five-star hotel. At 800 feet tall, Parcel F will be the last super-tall building in downtown San Francisco for the foreseeable future and the final project to directly connect to the Transit Center’s rooftop park via a pedestrian sky bridge.

In her current role as Project Manager, Courtney is tasked with coordinating the Parcel F Team to create, evaluate, and eventually meet budget and project schedule goals. Courtney’s focus is on the marketing/PR, entitlement process, and easement coordination of the project, as well as the underwriting, financing, and contract administration. She manages the Parcel F team’s synchronization with investors and partners.

“One thing I enjoyed about my experience in the Army was being part of a team working to solve complex problems.” Courtney says. “My time at Hines has taught me that development is a team sport. You’re working with teammates that have hundreds of cumulative years of experience and a generous willingness to share, all working together to achieve the best outcomes for a diverse group of stakeholders.”

For recent graduates pursuing career satisfaction, Courtney offers the following advice: “First evaluate the core values that resonate with you as a person,” she explains. “Once you are able to understand those, it is easier to identify a company that aligns with your ideals.”

Courtney advocates for diversity and inclusion through initiatives both inside and outside the office. During her time in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, she spearheaded OneHines efforts, which were developed to sustain an inclusive and diverse culture in the workplace. Moreover, in 2017, Courtney and a friend co-founded an organization with a mission to connect fellow female veterans during and beyond their transitions from military service.

As she acclimates to life on the West Coast, Courtney can be found taking surf lessons, rowing, or hiking next to the ocean in San Francisco.
