Making a Mark at Hines

Mastering Hines

I know that my voice is valued. Some of the most experienced developers in the industry were willing to listen to me, despite the fact that I was fresh out of business school.

After graduating from Duke University with a B.S. in Economics and earning an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, Paul knew he wanted to pursue a career in real estate. He also aspired to work for a company that would allow him to learn and grow. An opportunity at Hines presented itself and Paul joined the firm in July 2016.

As an associate at Hines’ Southeast regional office in Atlanta, Paul is the day-to-day manager of many projects. He is currently working on 110 10th Street in Miami—a city-defining 530,000-square-foot, 47-story mixed-use tower.

Being exposed to every aspect of a project, from inception to completion, is what Paul considers most rewarding. He is tasked with assessing the market, underwriting the opportunity, raising capital, working with consultants, conceptualizing the vision for a project, advising on the design, negotiating legal documents, developing marketing strategies and leasing the building.

“I am encouraged to participate and know that my voice is valued. Six months into my career at Hines, I asked my supervisor if I could research micro units—small apartments that live more like traditional apartments. He embraced the idea and made sure our findings were distributed throughout the company,” Paul explains. “Some of the most experienced developers in the industry were willing to listen to me, despite the fact that I was fresh out of business school. As a result of our research, we are implementing micro units in some of our projects.”

Originally from Denver, Colorado, skiing and enjoying the great outdoors are at the top of Paul’s list of favorites. When the former competitive swimmer isn’t in the office, he can be found relaxing with his wife and their adorable Cockapoo.
