Hines entered the nation's capitol in the mid-1980s with the development of Columbia Square designed by Pei Cobb Freed and Partners. The firm has been an active developer, investor, acquirer and property manager in the District as well as throughout Northern Virginia. Hines recently completed CityCenterDC, the iconic new heart of downtown D.C. encompassing office, residential, retail, restaurants and stunning common area and park space.

Hines entered the market with the 1988 opening of Philip Johnson's 500 Boylston which adjoins the Hines-developed Two Twenty Two Berkeley, designed by Robert A.M. Stern. The office has been active as a developer and acquirer with signature towers and suburban campuses. Residential is a current focus with several multifamily projects in its portfolio. Hines Proprietary Research is headquartered in the Boston office.
